Windows Action Center is a centralized hub where you can view notifications. Whenever an app sends a notification on Windows 11/10, it appears in the Action Center. However, the Windows Action Center keeps popping up on some users’ computers, creating a distraction while working. If you encounter such an issue, the solutions provided in this article will help you.
Windows Action Center keeps popping up
Use the following suggestions if the Action Center keeps popping up on your Windows 11/10 computer.
- Change the touchpad settings (if applicable)
- Check the issue in the Clean Boot state
- Turn on Do not disturb
- Change the Notification settings for a particular app
- Disable Action Center
- Restore your system
All these fixes are explained below in detail:
1] Change the touchpad settings (if applicable)
If you are a laptop user, you can change the touchpad settings. By default, the touchpad is configured to open the Action Center for three or four-finger gestures. Check this and disable this setting.
Follow these steps:
- Open Windows 11 Settings.
- Go to Bluetooth & Devices > Touchpad.
- Expand the Three-finger gestures and Four-finger gestures tabs.
- Select Nothing or an option other than the Notification Center in the drop-down.
2] Check the issue in the Clean Boot state
A third-party service might be responsible for this issue. To check this, you have to enter the Clean Boot state. But before proceeding, I suggest you disable all background applications via the Task Manager and restart your computer. Now, check if the issue occurs. If this helps, you can find the culprit background application, and you do not need to troubleshoot in a Clean Boot state.
Use MSConfig to enter the Clean Boot state. Be careful while using MSConfig. Do not disable all the Services, as doing this will make your system unstable. If the issue does not occur in the Clean Boot state, find out the problematic third-party service.
3] Turn on Do not disturb
You can turn on the Do Not Disturb mode in Windows 11. Windows does not show any notifications when this mode is enabled, except those added to the priority list. To enable it, open the Action Center and click the Bell icon at the top. The Do Not Disturb mode will remain enabled until you turn it off again.
4] Change the Notification settings for a particular app
The notifications in Windows Action Center keep popping up if a particular app sends notifications repeatedly. In such a case, you can set notifications for that particular app.
Follow these instructions:
- Open Windows 11 Settings.
- Go to System > Notifications.
- Scroll down and find the app sending you the most notifications. Now, you can either disable all the notifications of that app by turning off the respective switch or change its notification settings.
- Click on the app and uncheck the Show notification banners checkbox.
After this, you will not receive the notification pop-up, but the notifications will be available in the Action Center.
5] Disable Action Center
You can also disable the Action Center permanently. For this, you have to use Windows Registry Editor. Incorrect modifications in the Registry can cause serious issues on your computer. Therefore, follow all the steps carefully.
Before proceeding, I recommend you create a system restore point. Open Registry Editor, copy the following path, and paste it into the address bar of the Registry Editor. After that, hit Enter.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Explorer
Create a new entry on the right side. Right-click anywhere on the right side and select New > DWORD (32-bit) Value. Rename this value to DisableNotificationCenter. Double-click on this value and enter 1 in its Value data. Click OK to save.
After this, the Action Center will be disabled. You cannot open it even by clicking on the Taskbar Notification Area. If you want to enable it again, change the value of DisableNotificationCenter to 0 or delete this entry.
6] Restore your system
If the problem persists, restore your system to the previous point in time. Select the restore point created on the date before which your PC was working fine.
That’s it. I hope this helps.
How do I stop Windows activation popups?
If Windows is not activated, you will get these pop-up messages to activate your Windows license. However, if Windows keeps asking for activation even if your license is already activated, you can fix this by running the Windows Activation Troubleshooter.
Why do pop-up windows keep appearing?
If the pop-up windows keep appearing on your system, it can be a sign of a virus infection. You should scan your system with Microsoft Defender or a good third-party antivirus or antimalware. You can also download and install free antivirus software on your system.
